  • Description

Hinoki wood is a sacred wood. Japanese cypress is said to have spiritual virtues. This conifer is also prized for its elegant nuances, its light-colored veins and its delicate, resinous and lemony fragrance. Its lightness, its softness and its rot-resistant, antibacterial properties make it an ideal material for body hygiene. In addition to our collection of distinctive brushes, Hinoki is used in the manufacture of the “furo” (bathtub), “isu” (stool) and “ok” (bucket) – the traditional, harmonious constituents and accessories of Japanese bathrooms.

Out of the four models in our range of Japanese brushes, determine that which best corresponds to the desired skinfeel, the expected frequency of use, the sensitivity of your skin and the intended area of the body. The bristles’ material and their implantation influence the brush’s firmness. Will you prefer the extra-firm, firm, soft or extra-soft brush?

THE UPSHOT: Thanks to the combined effects of the scrubbing action and of steam, which opens up the pores, the skin is deeply cleansed and softened, and the body vivified from neck to foot.

WHAT TO DO NEXT: Visit a travel agency and plan an onsen-focused tour. Dive into an untranslated manga, and be sure to read it from right to left so as not to adulterate the original work. Don your daimyo armor. Read Kazuo Iwamura’s 14 Mice Go to Bed – the same story, every night.
