  • Description

    This dry oil is a perfect nectar for the skin, as bewitching as it is essential. Composed of three natural plant oils, it possesses a cumulative beneficial effect: the more you use it, the more the skin transforms due to its shaping and moisturizing properties. Sesame oil is a unique treasure: it was the world’s first vegetable extract in Mesopotamia, 3,500 years ago. It has softening qualities and is extremely easily absorbed. Fortified with antioxidants – Vitamin E, lecithin and sesamolin – it protects the skin against ageing. As for apricot oil, it strengthens the skin’s hydrolipidic layer and prevents dehydration. Finally, in this protective trio, comes coconut oil, which softens, tones, and restores unparalleled radiance, thanks to the presence of Vitamins E, K and its rich iron content.
     
    In 1834, Jean-Vincent Buly added Huile Antique to his beauty catalogue, inspired by Ancient Greek cosmetic practices and restorative skincare from thermal baths. This treatment, highly popular at the beginning of the 19th century, when there was a vogue for all things evoking Antiquity, was reinvented and brought up to date by the Officine.

  • SIGNATURE SCENT

    LA BAIGNEUSE

    “La Baigneuse” is an immersive journey back to the atmosphere of 19th-century baths. In the voluptuous harem, where skin and purity are at their fullest expression, orange blossom, a classic of sunny countries, translates the elegance of the white linen cushion where the bather is sitting. Lavender, with its interesting profile, both green and astringent, was a favourite of Queens Elizabeth I and Victoria, and adds sun-dried linen and draperies to the olfactory metaphor. Neroli, son of the bitter orange tree, exhales hesperidic notes commonly found in warm countries, anchoring the fragrance in an Orientalist atmosphere.
    The Eastern wind blows whiffs of woody patchouli, wet and camphor-like, and becomes a seductive zephyr. Patchouli was much appreciated during French Second Empire and was used to preserve shawls and stoles on their way from India to prevent their getting damaged during the trip. Across the Channel, the so-called “Grandmother of Europe”, Queen Victoria, had it abundantly used for her pots-pourris.
    Lavender absolute, used by the Romans to scent their baths – its etymology, lavere, is barely misleading – accentuates the impeccable self-care of this “Bather”. The scented work of art gets deeper and deeper, like the colour of a painted curtain, dense, dark, and mystical.

  • How to use

    Huile Antique can be applied all over the body, on slightly damp skin, after a shower or bath. Massage from the feet up to the neckline area, spending some extra time on the heels, knees and elbows.
    Apply a small amount on the ends of dry hair to leave them hydrated and slightly perfumed.
     
    THE OFFICINE RECOMMENDS
    Because of its brightening and relaxing effect, Huile Antique is perfect for evening use, either at bedtime or prior to a night out. Applied on slightly damp skin, this oil is absorbed more easily by the skin.
